Ubuntu Mate 17.10, Firefox custom home page setting

I recently upgrade to Ubuntu Mate (pronounced “matt – ay”) 17.10, and so far, things have been going swimmingly well. Except for Firefox…

No matter what I did, I could not get Firefox to retain my selection for my start page.

After repeated attempts, tweaks, curses, etc., I finally found the answer here:

sudo vi /usr/lib/firefox/ubuntumate.cfg

Look for this line:

pref("browser.startup.homepage", "https://start.ubuntu-mate.org/");

Change “https://start.ubuntu-mate.org/” to whatever you want your start page to be, and restart Firefox.

Voila! Nuisance fixed!
